Today when Ryan came home from school, he carried a handful of jewels in his hands. He said they were from "Vicki", a girl in his class. He's been talking a lot about Vicki this last month. I'm not sure I'm ready for this yet!

NOT SO GREAT DAY
Yesterday was a very sad day. Max died. Ryan and Olivia got Max and Ruby, our pet hamsters last year for Christmas. (or Max and Olivia, Olivia's hamster kept changing names) Ryan has played with Max almost every day for the last 10 months. About a week ago, it looked like Max was starting to get sick. (Really, how do you tell if a hamster is sick?) But then it went downhill fast, and he decided it was time to go yesterday. I couldn't tell Ryan when he got home from school, I didn't have the heart, so I waited until Rusty got home. We had the "glove and hand" FHE lesson about the spirit being seperate from the body which seemed to make sense for Ryan and Olivia, until we tried to compare it with the hamster. Ryan ran over to the cage and let me know that he was still alive since his eyes were still open. We finally convinced him that he wasn't alive or sleeping, and so then he wanted to help bury Max. It started out ok. Ryan wanted to pick Max up and put him in the hole Rusty dug, and then he wanted to help cover the hole, and that's when everything fell apart. Ryan grabbed the shovel, and then he started balling. I think we all cried for a second. Rusty didn't cry becuase the night before Rusty had picked Max up to see if he was ok, and got bit a couple of times.
Now I'm not so sure I want to get a dog anymore. If it was that sad for a hamster, what happens when your dog dies?
